Adaptation de services pervasifs et sensibles au contexte

Le développement de systèmes pervasifs et sensibles au contexte est une thématique récurrente dans les projets de recherche actuels dans le domaine de l’informatique ambiante (Ricquebourg et al., 2006) et des applications mobiles, comme par exemple, les guides de tourisme (Schwinger et al., 2006). Malgré ces progrès rapides, de nombreux défis scientifiques et techniques subsistent qui doivent être relevés afin de permettre la mise à disposition des services pervasifs aux utilisateurs nomades. Parmi ces défis, nous pouvons citer: (1) la difficulté de capturer le contexte d’utilisation en situation réelle, sans dégrader la performance et les ressources du système (telles que la batterie des capteurs, le réseau), (2) la faible exploitation des informations de haut niveau (la connaissance) sur le contexte, et (3) le manque de méthodes permettrant d’adapter le comportement de services à l’hétérogénéité des dispositifs mobiles (DM) et à l’évolution du contexte du système. Afin que les services pervasifs soient d’avantage opérationnels, nous proposons une infrastructure logicielle répartie dotée de fonctionnalités d’acquisition, de gestion et de diffusion d’informations contextuelles et capable d’aider le concepteur à gérer et adapter l’exécution des services du système.

XMobile: a MB-UID environment for semi-automatic generation of adaptive applications for mobile devices

Ubiquitous Computing promises seamless access to information anytime, anywhere with different and heterogeneous devices. This kind of environment imposes new challenges to software development. For example, information and user interface should be adapted according to contextual characteristics such as user, environment, and access device. In case of device adaptation, the development challenge is related to the heterogeneity of the devices, which requires software engineers to create different versions for each type of device and every platform. This paper proposes a MB-UID (Model-Based User Interface Development) approach for semi-automatic generation of adaptive applications for mobile devices. An environment, called XMobile, offers a device-independent user interface framework and a code generation tool for providing fast development of multi-platform and adaptive applications according to device and platform features. A case study is also presented to illustrate how the environment can be used for constructing an application for heterogeneous devices with different network connectivity modes.

A Semantic Approach and a Web Tool for Contextual Annotation of Photos Using Camera Phones

The increasing number of personal digital photos on the Web makes their management, retrieval and visualization a difficult task. To annotate these images using Semantic Web technologies is the emerging solution to decrease the lack of the description in photos files. However, existing tools performing manual annotation are time consuming for the users. In this context, this paper proposes a semi-automatic approach for annotating photos and photo collections combining OWL-DL ontologies and contextual metadata acquired by mobile devices. We also describe a mobile and Web-based system, called PhotoMap, that provides automatic annotation about the spatial, temporal and social contexts of a photo (i.e., where, when, and who). PhotoMap uses the Web Services and Semantic Web reasoning methods in order to infer information about the taken photos and to improve both browsing and retrieval.

XMobile: Un environment pour la génération d´interfaces adaptéees aux dispositifs mobiles.

L’évolution des technologies mobiles de ces dernières années permet d’envisager la conception d’une nouvelle génération de Systèmes d’Information (SI) : les SI pervasifs. Ceuxci doivent être capables d’adapter les données et la façon de les présenter en prenant en compte le contexte d’usage du système (l’utilisateur, l’environnement, le dispositif d’accès). Dans le cas spécifique de l’adaptation aux dispositifs d’accès, l’hétérogénéité de ces types de dispositifs pose un défi aux développeurs de SI destiné à être accédés par divers utilisateurs nomades. Ceci exige du développeur la construction de différentes versions du système pour chaque combinaison dispositif / plate-forme possible. L’environnement XMobile présenté dans cet article vise à réduire le temps de prototypage de ces systèmes et à fournir des méthodes d’adaptation d’interface. XMobile repose sur une approche MB-UID (Model-Based User Interface Development) pour la génération automatique d’interface d’applications pour les dispositifs mobiles. Il est composé par l’outil de génération de code et par un framework de composants d’interface qui, ensemble, permettent l’adaptation d’interface aux classes de dispositifs et à la plate-forme de programmation

Uma proposta para a geração semi-automática de aplicações adaptativas para dispositivos móveis

Computação Ubíqua promete acesso transparente à informação através de dispositivos diferentes e heterogêneos. A concepção de uma aplicação que executa neste tipo de ambiente apresenta como um dos desafios a adaptação da sua interface com usuário. Com o objetivo de prover o rápido desenvolvimento de aplicações para esse ambiente, este artigo propõe uma abordagem para a geração semi-automática de aplicações para dispositivos móveis multi-plataformas e com diferentes níveis de adaptação. Ela é composta por um framework de componentes de interface independentes de dispositivo e por uma ferramenta de geração de código. No artigo, é também apresentado um estudo de caso para ilustrar como o ambiente pode ser utilizado para a construção de uma aplicação para dispositivos heterogêneos e como o código gerado pode ser integrado com outros frameworks de desenvolvimento para DMs

FRAMESEC: a FRAMEwork for the application development with end-to-end SECurity provision in the mobile computing environment

Mobile devices offer network connectivity through wireless system communication that makes possible for applications to get access to information at any time and any place. However, the wireless link is more vulnerable to passive and active attacks than the fixed medium in the traditional networks. Then, this kind of connectivity brings security problems to the applications that deal with confidential data, such as mobile commerce. Although wireless communication systems, such as IEEE 802.11, implement protection mechanisms for data transmission, they have reported vulnerabilities and do not guarantee endto-end security, which is desirable for these applications. Thus, this work proposes an application framework that provides a reusable structure with security mechanisms, which enable end-to-end security in the mobile computing environment.

PEARL: a PErformance evaluaAtor of cRyptographic aLgorithms for mobile devices

Limited computational power imposes new challenges during the implementation of security and privacy solutions for mobile devices. The choice for the most appropriate cryptographic algorithm for each mobile device has become a critical factor. In this paper, we present an approach for performance evaluation of cryptographic algorithms for mobile devices. To validate the approach, a tool called PEARL (PErformance evaluAtor of cryptogRaphic aLgorithms for mobile devices) is introduced. This tool collects and analyzes information related to the executions of the cryptographic algorithms in the mobile devices. PEARL also allows evaluating the performance of symmetrical and asymmetrical cryptographic algorithms and hashing functions for the J2ME platform.

MobiS: A Solution for the Development of Secure Applications for Mobile Devices

With the mobile computing evolution, portable devices have emerged in the market with the possibility of connection to IP networks using wireless technologies. The migration from fixed terminals to wireless mobile devices and the increasing availability of information for such devices impose new challenges in the development of applications. The security and the portability are examples of these challenges that constitute the motivation for this work. Our main goal is to introduce a solution, called MobiS (Mobility and Security), to the development of secure applications for data transmission using wireless technologies.

Mobile Adapter: Uma abordagem para a construção de Mobile Application Servers adaptativos utilizando as especificações CC/PP e UAProf

A inexistência de formas eficientes para conseguir informações sobre dispositivos, usuários e seu contexto atual é um desafio para construção de Mobile Application Servers (MAS) adaptativos. Este trabalho apresenta uma infra-estrutura baseada nas especificações Composite Capability/Preference Profiles (CC/PP) e User Agent Profiling Specification (UAProf) e que é capaz de oferecer as informações necessárias para que os MAS possam realizar a adaptação de conteúdo. Os componentes desta infra-estrutura Web, intitulada de Mobile Adapter, são descritos, juntamente com um estudo caso criado para validá-la. O estudo de caso consiste em um MAS para a adaptação de imagens e textos. Uma avaliação da eficiência da adaptação é também apresentada.
